#French Film Festival Celebrates Two Decades in Cuba

Havana, An exhibition of the best French motion pictures will take place in Cuba”s movie theaters in May, when the 20th French Film Festival will take place.

In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the event, more theaters will screen an unprecedented number of films: 50 motion pictures during an entire month.

The film festival will take place in 11 province and five subvenues in Havana, in addition to the usual movie theaters 23 y 12, Charles Chaplin, Riviera, Yara, La Rampa, Multicine Infanta and Sala Glauber Rocha, the latter attached to the New Latin American Cinema Foundation.

The program consists of 17 premieres, four animated feature-length films for children, several tributes to French moviemakers and an exhibition of cult comedies.


#Maduro Warns of Violent Face of Ultra Right Wing in Venezuela

Caracas, Apr 28 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro asserted that in the next few hours he will reveal the violent face of the Democratic Unity Table (MUD) and the ultra-right, so that you will be aware of the truth of what is happening in Venezuela.

Maduro stressed that although he is limited to not interfering in matters that fall to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary, in the next few hours he will show ‘the horrible face of violence, death and destruction caused by MUD’ .

‘I will show everything there is, the whole truth, for you to know the truth,’ underlined the head of state through the Venezolana de Televisión channel.

#Venezuelans Back Decision to Leave OAS

Caracas,  The Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, supported actions taken by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to begin the process of withdrawal of this South American nation from the OAS.

Cabello stressed last night that ‘Neither imperialism or OAS, or Argentine or Brazil will come here to act as mother of our homeland, this sovereign homeland is run by the people, none of them’, during a broadcast of the program ‘con el mazo dando’ in Venezolana Television.

#Call to Unity, Cooperation for Regional Sustainable Development

México,  The first meeting of the Forum of Latin American and Caribbean Countries on Sustainable Development continues here today after a call made by president Enrique Peña Nieto to achieve unity, cooperation and regional integration.

The forum is sponsored by the Economic Commission of Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac), but is open to representatives or governments, civil organizations, organisms of the United Nations, businesspeople, international financial institutions, among other sectors and institutions.

#ECLAC: Bolivia to Lead Regional Economic Growth

La Paz, For the fourth consecutive year, Bolivia will lead the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in South America in 2017, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) projections published here today.

According to the ECLAC, the Bolivian GDP will be four percent, although the Ministry of Economy of this country predicts 4.7.

According to the UN agency, Paraguay ranks second with (3.8), followed by Peru (3.5), Colombia (2.4), Uruguay (2), Argentina (2), Chile (1.5), Ecuador (0.6) and Brazil (0.4).

Havana, An investment forum stands out today among the proposals of the second day of HostelCuba, which includes intense agenda of private roundtable discussions and discussions among professionals.

HostelCuba International Hotel Business and Catering Fair is an event organized by FIRE Barcelona and Palco Business Group, which succeeded to triple the number of participants and increase the number of square meters contracted by exhibitors.

#China and the U.S. Advocate for Greater Bilateral Coordination

Beijing, Chinese president Xi Jinping and his U.S. peer, Donald Trump, agreed today over the telephone to increase coordination in global issues.

Both discussed bilateral links and the situation in the Korean peninsula and committed to keep a close contact through several channels and exchange perspectives on the main issues of common worry.

Xi emphasized that China firmly opposes any action that violates resolutions of tyhe UN Security Council and expressed his trust that the parties involved exercise contention and prevent taking steps that heighten tension in the península.

#Cuba Electrifies Homes with Photovoltaic Solar Panels

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Electrification with photovoltaic solar panels to isolated homes is today a strategy of the Cuban State to benefit families living in places with difficult access.
About 167 homes have been favored with this technology in the central province of Ciego de Avila, about 430 kilometers from Havana. The aim is to raise the standard of living of people in places where to bring the network of the National Electric Power System is impossible.
Marialina Herrera, an investment specialist at the electricity company in this territory, stated that another 364 houses in remote rural settlements will be energized during the second stage of the program in the province.

#Experts from over 15 Countries Debate in Cuba on Urban Agriculture

Havana,  Experts from more than 40 institutions in 15 countries are taking part in the 3rd International Congress on Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture inaugurated in Cuba Wednesday, to exchange and debate on food security and sovereignty.

The forum will be in session up to Friday at the Havana Convention Center, organized by the National Institute on Tropical Agriculture Research, the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Enterprise Group, with the sponsorship of the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO).

#Cuba, Mexico and the USA Win Medals in Ballet Competition

Havana,  Ballet students from Cuba, Mexico and the United States now hold the medals of the 14th International Youth Competition and the 4th International Children”s Competition held in this capital.

In the first minutes of this day, the winners still held their medals on the outskirts of the National Theater of Cuba, as the closing ceremony of the contests and the 23rd International Meeting of Academies for teaching the ballet concluded around midnight.

The ovations were uncountable throughout the ceremony, whose first part focused on the delivery of the awards, which were mostly in the hands of Cuban dance artists in the six categories and grand prizes.
