#British Airline Opens Flights to Cuban Resort of Varadero

Matanzas, Cuba, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) British airline Virgin Atlantic has started flights from the London Gatwick airport to Varadero”s famous Cuban resort, a website specializing in tourism posted today.

An investigation from the company resulted in the growing interest of travelers to Cuba, while the company expects to transport more than 28,000 tourists, according to the report from that nation’s newspaper The Mirror, cited by Excelencias website.

The study, which confirms trips to the island, showed that in the last biennium, a third of the United Kingdom travelers have been more interested in visiting the Caribbean island, according to the source.

Virgin Atlantic operates transcontinental flights from London to North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

Located on the Hicacos peninsula, in the north-western province of Matanzas, about 140 kilometers east of Havana, Varadero is the main beach and sun destination of this Caribbean nation.

It has around 50 hotel facilities dedicated to the so-called leisure industry, more than 80 percent with four and five star categories, and more than 20,400 rooms.

It also has a wide extra-hotel network that includes restaurants, cafeterias, discos, car rental companies, shops, golf course and many recreational nautical services.

Known as La Playa Azul (The Blue Beach), Varadero has Canada as the main tourist market.
