People’s Conference Brings World Politicians Together in Bolivia

Tiquipaya,  The World Conference of Peoples gathered together today politicians and representatives of social movements from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia, in the Bolivian city of Tiquipaya.

Under the motto ‘Towards a universal citizenship and a world without walls, the event invited the former president of the Spanish government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, and the former leaders of Ecuador and Colombia, Rafael Correa and Ernesto Samper, respectively.

According to the organizers, the summit of the peoples also has the presence of Vatican secretary for migratory issues, Michael Czerny, and representatives of social movements in the world.

Scheduled until Wednesday, the meeting was convened by Bolivian President Evo Morales to respond to anti-immigrant policies promoted by US President Donald Trump.

According to Morales, the event will defend inclusive and reflective spaces to achieve ‘physical, legal and mental dismantling of walls such as discrimination and racism.

For this reason, those attending the international meeting will analyze the situation of the migrants and the US decision to build a wall on the Mexican border.
